Rio Grande Turkey Season Starts Saturday
Spring turkey season is here! A youth-only weekend for Rio Grande turkey kicked off the season in the South Zone, March 12-13. Youth-only weekend for Rio Grande turkey in the North Zone is March 26-27. Both zones have a second youth-only weekend in May.
Rio Grande turkey general season:
• South Zone: March 19 – May 1
• North Zone: April 2 – May 15
• Special 1 turkey bag limit (10 counties) April 1 – April 30
Eastern turkey general season is April 15 – May 14 in 15 East Texas counties. You can check specific county listings for the dates, regulations and bag limits. The Outdoor Annual lists all dates and zones and has a spring zone map. Learn what’s new for 2016.
Things to remember:
• You’ll need a hunting license and Upland Game Bird Endorsement.
• Every hunter born on or after 9/2/71 must complete Hunter Education and carry proof while hunting – keep the proof in your pocket!
• Physical check stations for Eastern turkey have been replaced by two easy reporting options – on the TPWD website or through the free My Texas Hunt Harvest app, available for iPhone and Android devices.
