Michigan Hunter Mistakes Elk For Whitetail

Elk mistake will cost hunter steep fines

The Outdoor Hub reports a Michigan hunter showed up at a state DNR check station with an elk he thought was a whitetail deer. His excitement was short lived when officials informed him of his mistake and subsequent fines he’ll have to pay.

“It happens every year, it’s foggy and hunters just get confused somehow, but it happens every year,” said Michigan DNR officer Lt. Gorno. The mistake will cost the hunter a $5,000 fine, plus $500 for every point on the elk’s rack. This proves you should always be 100 percent certain of your target before pulling the trigger. Imgur photo
