As summer nears its end and family vacations and fishing trips are winding down, you will start to feel that itch again. The shotgun in the back of your safe looks like it could use a good cleaning, the Mojo decoys in your garage need their batteries replaced and you’ve been checking the 7-day forecast more than usual, eagerly awaiting the first cool front of the season to arrive and knock temperatures down a few degrees.
Dove season is just around the corner and with so many options in the South Texas area to choose from, Seco Creek Dove Hunts thought we’d share a little bit about our family operation and what we have to offer. With a lifetime of love for the outdoors and over 13 years of hands-on dove outfitting experience, the Flores Family of Seco Creek Dove Hunts in Devine, Texas aims to be one of South Texas’ finest dove hunting getaways for families, businesses and everyone in between.

What started out at our family ranch in Pearsall in 2011 has grown into a full-fledged obsession with everything dove and dove hunting. We still offer lodge hunts at the Flores Ranch, which has two lodges that house eight and eighteen hunters. The 1000 acre ranch is located twenty minutes from our namesake property, Seco Creek, and has seven stock tanks, several wheat fields and an irrigated sesame pivot on-site. Built-in 2023 and sitting on 120 acres of irrigated Black Oil Sunflowers, our lodges at Seco Creek can comfortably accommodate over 60 hunters.
We offer eight hotel-style rooms that hold five hunters, each with their own TV, mini-split AC/heater, full bathroom and couch, with two full-size bunk beds and one full size bed in each room. We also have a new 3000 square foot lodge for the 2024 season that will have four full bathrooms, four bedrooms with 20 full-size beds for large families or groups that want to lodge together. So whether it’s a corporate group you’re trying to entertain, a family of four who wants to get away for the weekend, or an out-of-state group who wants to stay at a South Texas ranch, Seco Creek has several options, all within an hour of the San Antonio area.
One thing we’ve learned over the years is that irrigation is crucial when trying to attract birds to your fields year after year. We’ve been blessed with rains the last two dove seasons, but as many South Texans know, droughts can and will happen. That’s why Seco Creek has over 10 different irrigation pivots, end guns and k lines, spanning from Lytle to Pearsall and no more than 25 minutes from our lodges, ensuring that our 850+ acres of Black Oil sunflowers, sesame and wheat fields will consistently provide seed every year, despite a drought.
What we are especially excited for this upcoming season is our newly acquired 250-acre property in Moore, just 10 minutes from SecoCreek and 15 minutes from the Flores Ranch. Every inch of this property will be dedicated year-round to doves and dove hunting. 200 acres of sunflowers, sesame and wheat fields cover the property, with four brand new tanks and the Black Creek running right through the middle of the property.
This new property, as well as several other new properties, has also led us to venture into day hunts this upcoming season. So if lodging is out of your budget or you’re a local who just wants to hunt for an evening, we’ve got you covered! We know that having birds is the most important thing to look for when booking a dove hunt. We do everything in our power throughout the year and during the season to make sure our fields are loaded. But there’s one thing we offer here at Seco Creek that we feel a lot of others cannot replicate. Our hospitality.
You will see the owners here helping, whether it be cleaning birds, serving food, making homemade side dishes and desserts, or just sitting down and having a conversation with you, asking about your stay. Our guides and helpers are lifelong friends and family members. We feel that sometimes, those aspects of the trip are just as important as the hunt itself. We look forward to meeting everyone at the Houston and San Antonio Hunters Extravaganza shows coming up this August. We’ll have current videos of our fields loaded down with doves, lodge and field pictures from last season, as well as show specials and dove/duck hunting packages for the winter season. Happy Hunting!
