Oregon Man Impaled By Elk
ATV accident caused hunter to be impaled
The Oregonian reports a hunter who killed an elk became impaled by that elk as he transported it with his ATV. Gary Heeter killed an elk in the Maury Mountains last weekend and attached it to his ATV for transport. As he dragged it with his vehicle up a steep incline, the vehicle flipped. When it did, Heeter flipped backwards, impaling himself on the elk.
Members of his hunting party performed first aid until help arrived. Rescue workers had difficulty flying him away by helicopter. The helicopter pilot had trouble finding an adequate landing site because of rough terrain. Heeter’s elk and ATV-photo courtesy Crook County Sheriff’s Office
