Oklahoma Bowhunter Takes Record Non-typical Buck

An Army sergeant from Oklahoma arrowed the biggest non-typical buck taken by a bowhunter in that state, The Oklahoman newspaper reports. Travis Ocker of Lawton, stationed at Fort Sill, killed the trophy buck on the base on Nov. 12.

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation’s Cy Curtis Awards Program says it’s the second biggest non-typical ever taken in the state. Ocker’s 28-point buck, officially measured in mid January by a Boone & Crockett scorer, scored 245 2/8. “I was hunting on post so you can’t really do much scouting or anything like that,” Ocker told the paper. “It’s just the luck of the draw that day.
