Journal Contributor Dies
Mike Lambeth, 55, a long-time outdoor writer from Edmond, Oklahoma, and a Journal contributor, died April 10 in Woodward, Oklahoma. Mike was in Woodward to participate in the lieutenant governor’s annual turkey hunt. It was his 18th appearance at the lieutenant governor’s turkey hunt, according to The Oklahoman newspaper. Over the years, Mike’s hunting and fishing stories have appeared in numerous magazines, including Oklahoma Game and Fish, North American Whitetail, Hunting Fool, and others. Occasionally, Mike even contributed a story to The Oklahoman’s outdoors page, according to Oklahoman writer Ed Godfrey. Godfrey recalled when he and Mike would take a striper fishing trip together each summer to the Lower Illinois River. Godfrey enjoyed his company and sharing stories about the outdoors. “Mike was passionate and very knowledgeable about the outdoors. A past president of the Oklahoma chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Mike was the first person to introduce me to turkey calling contests after I started writing about the outdoors, and I will never forget how animated he became in his demonstration,” Godfrey wrote in his blog for the paper. Lambeth leaves behind his wife Donna; sons Evan Jack and Ethan Michael; and daughters Melissa Suzanne and Mallory Gwynne.
