Youth Super Hunt Scheduled in January

By August 9th, 2023No Comments

The Texas Youth Hunting Program’s (TYHP) Super Hunt No. 17 is scheduled for Jan. 17–19, 2020, with the Cave Creek Wildlife Management Association in Gillespie County. Registration for first time youth hunters or youth hunters new to TYHP is available at www.tyhp.org. Deadline for this hunt is Dec. 20, 2019.

The headquarters for the Super Hunt is the historic Cave Creek One-Room Schoolhouse and Community Center, which is made up of the schoolhouse and the original pavilion. In addition, indoor restrooms have been added for the comfort and convenience of the participants. The community of Cave Creek is located north of Stonewall and northeast of Fredericksburg.

Previously, Super Hunt No. 16 was held in northeastern Gillespie County Jan. 4-6. Huntmasters and volunteers from the Austin Woods & Waters Club, in cooperation with the Cave Creek WMA, under the guidance of the TYHP, organized and executed the event. They hosted 51 youth hunters, each with an accompanying parent or adult guardian. Over that weekend, 61 animals—whitetail doe and axis doe—were taken by youth hunters, which contributed greatly to the wildlife management mission of the Cave Creek WMA.

The TYHP was established in 1996 as a partnership between the Texas Wildlife Association and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department with the mission of introducing youth hunters to a safety-oriented, mentored hunting experience.
