Can Gummy Bears Control Feral Hogs?

 

Scientists at Louisiana State University have developed a “sweet” way to handle the feral hog population. At a recent symposium in Baton Rouge, La., LSU animal science researcher Glen Gentry gave attendees an update on hog control research, which entails using a familiar sweet snack combined with sodium nitrate, an effective poison on hogs. “I like using gummy bears as a way to hide the salty and bitter taste of sodium nitrite,” he said.
