QDMA Continues Fighting Deer Breeding Expansion

By August 11th, 2023No Comments

The Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) reports that efforts to liberalize captive deer breeding regulations were largely rejected in current state legislative sessions.  Of nine bills being tracked by the Association, six were unsuccessful (Georgia, Indiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, West Virginia), two remain stalled in committee (New Jersey, New York), and only one—in Ohio—became law. In February, QDMA outlined points of concern to them with the deer breeding industry, including erosion of the North American Model of wildlife conservation, loss of public support for hunting, and potential spread of disease.
