TTHA Youth Hunt Provides An Opportunity To Reach Out!
On the heels of initiatives like “No Child Left Inside” and in response to the growing need to do more for our community, Texas Trophy Hunters Association (TTHA) teamed up with City Kids Adventures to provide a meaningful, outdoor experience to a small group of inner-city kids. Six supervised boys and girls took to the woods at Whispering Water Ranch in Menard, Texas in a successful attempt to dust the pavement off their shoes and put on some good, clean dirt.
Each child was given the opportunity to shoot a deer and to soak up some quality outdoor time. A few of the new hunters witnessed the heart-pumping excitement of rattling up a buck. Funding for this and other non-profit programs comes from a combination of TTHA membership support, private funding, corporate donations and grants from groups like the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
“We were blessed to have met the McNeil family who founded City Kids Adventures, an organization that takes inner-city kids on outdoor and educational excursions,” states Joe Betar, Chief Operating Officer of TTHA. “These young men and young women need us to help them stay connected to our hunting heritage.”
Leon McNeil of City Kids Adventures remarks about TTHA, “It's very difficult to put into words just how much of an impact your kindness will have on our young people. Your organization exemplifies what it means to give back and make a difference.”
Instead of wondering what might happen to the future of hunting, we must all reach outside or our own circle to make the hunting world a little bigger and a little better.
TTHA strives to unite all segments of the hunting community for the dissemination of information and joining of energies to promote and protect our hunting heritage. Founded in 1975, TTHA is a membership-based organization. Its bimonthly magazine, The Journal of the Texas Trophy Hunters, is available through membership and newsstands, the award-winning outdoor television program, The Journal of the American Trophy Hunters, airs on the Outdoor Channel. In addition, TTHA hosts the Hunters Extravaganza® outdoor expositions, renowned as the largest whitetail hunting shows in the South.
