Those who want to carry their guns into national parks and wildlife refuges this summer might have to wait until next year to do so, reports the Associated Press. That’s because when President Barack Obama signed new rules for credit card companies into law on May 22, the gun provision was attached to it. The credit card legislation goes into effect February 2010, therefore, so does the legal right to carry guns into the parks and refuges.
An Interior Department spokesperson said the department will comply with Congress’ directive to implement the law in nine months, which drew heavy criticism from the gun measure’s chief sponsor Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn. A spokesman for Coburn said the Senator will offer the gun amendment to other bills in order to implement the decision as quickly as possible.
