TTHA URGES HUNTERS TO USE THEIR VOICES AND VOTE THEIR MINDS

SAN ANTONIO, TX: The Texas Trophy Hunters Association is urging hunters to protect their firearms, shooting and hunting rights by registering and voting in the general election in November 2008.

“Your vote is your voice. It tells elected officials how you feel about issues that are important to you” says TTHA Chief Operating Officer Joe Betar. “Your vote is your loudspeaker, too, and when you vote, we’ll crank up that loudspeaker so they’ll pay attention to what we have to say. Our children can’t vote so we have to do it for them. We vote to honor our history. It’s your turn to stand up and vote to preserve and honor those who went before us.”

TTHA  has  set up a  voting  rights  information  section on  its  website  at www.ttha.com.   Information on registering to vote is available through such resources as the National Rifle Association (http://www.nraila.org/ActionCenter/GetInvolvedLocally/VoterInformation.aspx?st) and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (http://www.nssf.org/register/register.cfm).

“Elected officials make decisions that affect our daily lives,” according to Betar. “Voting is a right and privilege not to be disregarded but to be held up proudly and exercised so that those who represent us do so justly.”

Betar notes that now, more than ever, hunters should be outspoken. “In today's political climate, silence is counterproductive. Now, more than ever, there are forces working steadily at taking away our rights.”

Hunters join other sportsmen and women in providing more than 75% of the annual income of the 50 state conservation agencies. They are clearly the largest contributors to conservation - paying for programs that benefit all Americans and all wildlife. To date, hunters and fishermen have contributed a total of over $17 billion for wildlife conservation.
